Getting Your Home Ready for the Christmas Period

The lead up to Christmas can be a particularly stressful time. We tend to get so caught up in the idea that this one day of the year needs to be perfect, we forget to enjoy ourselves. We say Christmas should only ever be enjoyed, and not stressed over. While a little stress around Christmas tends to be unavoidable, it’s important not to let it run away with you. Easier said than done you say? Well if you’re entertaining this Christmas, we aim to help you stress over one less thing this Christmas, your home.

Decorations

One of the most stress inducing factors of Christmas tends to be money, or lack of it. Sometimes our budget just won’t stretch to cover all the costs of Christmas, but one area where you can certainly save money on is decorations. We say when it comes to Christmas decorations, it’s the little touches that make a difference. You don’t need that huge tree covered in fancy glass baubles or a blinding amount of lights covering the front of your house. Focus on adding little Christmassy details around your home, that your guests will appreciate. For example, a holly wreath is an inexpensive decoration, that you can even make yourself if you choose to, but will make your guests feel welcome and excited for Christmas, before they even set foot in the door. Tinsdel and Christmas garlands are relatively cheap decorations, that can make your home feel instaly Christmassy. Throw some on a side table, windowsill or wind it up the staircase.

Touch up

Christmas is a great time to quickly sweep through your home, and tackle all the DIY tasks you’ve been meaning to ‘get around to’ all year. No we’re not talking about re painting the kitchen or tiling the bathroom floor. We mean fixing that loose door handle, oiling that hinge and re varnishing the chipped windowsill. Once you’ve tackled the tasks that have been nagging away at you for months on end, we guarantee you’ll feel a little less stressed about uninvited guests popping In for a coffee.

Make it Cosy

If there’s one way to make your home feel Christmassy, it’s through the power of soft furnishings. Make your guests, and yourself feel instantly comfortable and cosy by introducing some extra blankets and pillows into your lounge. Big chunky blankets are very in vogue at the moment and are perfect for making your room look cosy. If it won’t throw off your colour scheme, opt for warm tones, like reds and oranges for a true Christmas vibe. If your homes colour palette is more cool toned, go for forest green. If you want to take it one step further, why not add a window blind in a festive colour too. All our window blinds are made to measure. Take a look at our festive colour options below.
